There are many top MLMs all over the world, some of them having been in business for over 20 years or more. This, obviously, is one criteria of a successful MLM–the fact that it has withstood the test of time. But there are other important factors to consider when determining whether a network marketing company should be considered as one of the top MLMs. Here are some of them.
Make sure that the product or service is in demand. This seems obvious but many companies end up going out of business because they were selling something that not enough people wanted. Another important point to make is that you don’t want to be speculating on whether the product or service is going to be popular in the near future. It must be something that is popular now. Of course, you would hope that it would also continue to be in demand in the future, but you should make your decision based on what you see happening in today’s market.
The product or service should stir up some emotions. Not all network marketing companies will offer exciting products and services, but the best ones will offer a product that stirs up some excitement in its customers and representatives. Also, try to identify what the special feature is about the products. Things that can make a product or service unique include a patented ingredient or the way it is packaged.
Consumability is also important. Make sure that your product or service is suitable for re-orders. This means more money for you, without having to find other customers.
Another fundamental aspect that will determine whether an MLM company works well for you or not is your attitude. Know that up to 97 percent of people do not profit in their MLM endeavors.
This is not so much a problem attributed to MLM companies themselves, as it is to how the companies themselves are being marketed to potential distributors. Many people join network marketing companies because they are told that it’s an easy way to make money on the side or part-time, and that no experience is necessary. In reality, if you are not familiar with sales or marketing, and especially if you are not familiar with sales or marketing on the Internet, you will most probably need to do a little training on this aspect.
Your MLM company may provide you with the literature, websites, and digital sales products to help you out, but you will need to know, or to learn, how to use them. On the upside, it is extremely inexpensive to start running an MLM, and you don’t have to come up with your own product or service. It is already ready and waiting for you. Top MLMs do offer immense potential for those who have the mindset of doing and learning what it takes to succeed in the business.
How are the Top 25 MLM Companies Decided?
To make a fair assessment we gave consideration to things that really don’t matter; for instance, 24 of the 25 companies are members of the DSA. And to things that really do matter; like time in business!
In short, we wanted you to know the exact criteria we used in order to select, and then to rank, “The Top 25…” You may agree with our findings, or you may not; we welcome your thoughts and opinions either way. Here’s the Nexera Five-Factor Formula we used to make our selections:
The company must be a self-described Network Marketing, Multi Level, or MLM company.
The company must be in business for at least 10 years as of December 31, 2012.*
The company must have a Google Page Rank– GPR. A scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best.
The company must have an Alexa Rank– AR. Here the smaller the number the better.
The company must show up in Google Trends– GT. All Regions. Last 12 months.**
The Top 25 MLM Companies
The five factors above are taken into account at the end of each year, and then a ranking decision is made. As of January 1, 2013, The Top 25 Network Marketing Companies are:
* Why 10 years? Because that amount of time really seems to matter. For example, according to research, since 1956 thousands of different MLM, Multi Level, or Network Marketing companies have opened their doors; and to date only +/- 50 MLM companies have found a way to celebrate their 10th anniversary and still remain in business today. Now, to be completely fair, we should also point out that each and every company on our list was at one time a start-up company too.
**For purposes of comparing Internet search term interest using Google Trends (GT),all 25 companies were compared to the term, MLM. A score of 1.00 would indicate the same level of Internet search interest; anything above 1.00 more interest, anything below 1.00 less interest.
A few noteworthy points on this list… The only companies considered for this list are U.S.A. based; and if you click on each and every company linked above, what you will not find should be as interesting to you (and as revealing) as what you will find. There are no travel companies, only two technology companies (ACN and 5LINX), just one service company (Legal Shield), and 22 health and wellness companies. Even Amway, whose core product line still includes soap, really got started by way of the wellness revolution! Read this book by Paul Zane Pilzer and you’ll understand why nutrition, weight management, and skincare products continue to drive the trends in the network marketing industry to this day.
Lastly, if the company is publicly traded, and six of The Top 25… are, we have linked their year in business above, in red, over to MarketWatch for a real-time stock quote and other financial information.
